Semi crash in I-75 work zone claims trucker's life

A tragic crash happened Tuesday morning, June 24th, on I-75 near the I-275 split in Frenchtown Township, Michigan. A semi truck ran into a Michigan Department of Transportation work zone around 9 a.m., causing a deadly scene.

What happened: The semi hit an attenuator truck parked behind road workers and then struck a second one. The impact caused the semi to jackknife and dump its load of aluminum cans across the highway.

  • The truck driver died at the scene. His name has not yet been released.
  • Several MDOT workers had minor injuries.

The crash shut down all northbound lanes of I-75 at Exit 20/I-275. At last update, the lanes stayed closed while police and cleanup crews worked at the site, according to CBS Detroit.

Police are still investigating what caused the crash and checking if impairment played a role. No further information on when the road will reopen has been given.
