Semi hauling applesauce tips and spills 46,000 pounds on I-57

Early Monday morning, October 6th, a semi hauling a huge load of apple sauce flipped over on Interstate 57 in Franklin County, Illinois.

The details: The accident happened at about 4:38 a.m. The entire rig was the only vehicle involved. After the crash, the trailer broke open and spilled around 46,000 pounds of apple sauce out onto the road.

  • Yellow applesauce covered the pavement and blocked much of the highway.
  • Illinois State Police responded. There were no injuries reported.
  • The mess took over four hours to clean up, with I-57 reopening at 8:45 a.m.
