A semi truck hit a group of cows early in the morning on May 31, 2025, in Fountain Township, Minnesota.
What happened: The incident took place just before 4:30 a.m. on Highway 16 near mile marker 230. The truck, a 1998 Volvo, was heading west when it struck 11 cows that were loose on the road.
- The truck was driven by James Brian Gregoire, age 57, from Ivanhoe, MN.
- Ten of the cows died. One survived but its condition isn’t listed.
- The truck driver suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Saint Mary's Hospital in Rochester.
Authorities say the weather and road were both clear and dry at the time.
The response: Preston Fire and Lanesboro EMS showed up to help at the scene. State Patrol is looking into how the cows got loose in the first place, according to Minnesota State Patrol.
