On Monday night, June 30, a semi truck rolled over on Highway 69 just south of Westcliffe in Custer County, Colorado. The truck was hauling frozen hot dogs and other foods. Thankfully, nobody was hurt in the crash.
What happened next: The company in charge of the load said the food couldn't be sold anymore, so officers in Custer County decided to give it away to the community instead of letting it go to waste.
- Law enforcement brought the frozen food to the local Custer School and Alta store, keeping it cold until it could be shared the next morning.
- On Tuesday, July 1, families were invited to pick up free frozen groceries at the school parking lot starting at 9 a.m.
- Each family was asked to only take two grocery bags full, so there would be enough for everyone.
No reason for the crash has been released by authorities, but all food was safely distributed to the community, according to KKTV.
