A semi-truck spilled its cargo of Subway cookies across Interstate 15 in Beaver County, Utah, while swerving to avoid a slow-moving car on a spare tire.
The incident occurred around 4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 18, blocking traffic and leaving northbound travelers in a miles-long backup. The truck driver, who sustained minor injuries, was taken to a hospital, as reported by ABC4 News.
Further complications: A third vehicle, attempting to avoid the traffic resulting from the initial accident, swerved off the road, hitting a cable barrier. Fortunately, this driver was unharmed.
Response efforts: Emergency teams and Utah Highway Patrol responded promptly, beginning clear-up operations which were anticipated to take several hours. The UHP emphasized the importance of road safety and preparedness, urging caution from passing drivers.
Impact on traffic: The UHP estimated a minimum of two hours for debris removal and the clearing of the overturned truck. The cleanup and recovery operations continued well into the night, causing considerable delays.
While the highway was not fully reopened until the early hours of the following Monday, no further accidents or injuries were reported as a result of this incident.
