Truck driver survives fiery crash on Florida Turnpike

A multi-vehicle collision including a semi-truck and seven cars on the Florida Turnpike near Miami-Dade caused significant traffic delays on Thursday morning, February 8.

The incident: The tractor-trailer lost control in the southbound lanes near Interstate 75, collided with seven vehicles, hit the median concrete wall, then rolled over and caught fire, reported NBC Miami.

  • The cab of the truck was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.
  • Debris from the accident and a significant diesel spill required extensive clean-up efforts.

The aftermath: One individual was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash.

Impact on traffic: The collision prompted a shutdown of all southbound lanes during peak traffic hours, exacerbating delays.

Emergency crews managed to extinguish the fire and began clearing the wreckage and managing the diesel spill, but there was no immediate timeline for reopening the affected lanes.

Current status: Authorities have not yet released additional details on the cause of the collision or whether any charges will be filed.
