Semi truck hits low overpass, sparks chain-reaction crash

A semi truck crashed into a low overpass on US 131, Michigan, causing a chain-reaction collision with three other vehicles on December 31st at about 9:45 a.m.

What happened: The semi, oversized for the 144th Avenue overpass, attempted to pass underneath but ended up striking it. This led to a pile-up involving a box truck and two other vehicles.

  • The incident, thankfully, resulted in only minor injuries.
  • Crews closed the northbound lanes until 2:45 p.m. to deal with the aftermath.

The impact: The 144th Avenue overpass is now structurally compromised and closed until further notice, reported WOOD TV8.

Thankfully, no major injuries were reported, and everyone made it out safely.
