A truck stop in Orange, Texas, had to be cleared out late Thursday night after a trailer loaded with sulfur and carbon started smoking in the parking lot.
What happened: Around 10 p.m. on October 23, firefighters showed up at the Flying J on Highway 62 and found smoke coming from the trailer.
- Authorities shut down the truck stop, moved all other big rigs out of the area, and closed Highway 62 nearby as a precaution.
- Firefighters and emergency crews worked through the night to cool off the trailer with water while checking the chemical mixture for safety risks.
- The Denny's restaurant next to the truck stop was also cleared out.
The response: The truck stop stayed closed until crews decided the sulfur-carbon load no longer posed a threat, reported 12NewsNow.
No injuries were reported, and all other parked trucks were safely moved away.
