Speeding stop leads to log book and marijuana citations

CHP troopers pulled over a commercial truck driver on July 14 near Nipton, California, for going 73 mph—well above the 55 mph speed limit for big rigs.

What happened next: Officers said the driver tried to toss marijuana cigarettes out the window after being stopped. The product, labeled “Hustler’s Ambition,” didn’t go unnoticed.

  • The driver was also cited for not having a log book in the cab, which is a required part of compliance paperwork.
  • CHP says the trucker now has a 24-hour “time out,” meaning he was taken off the road for at least a full day.

What CHP said: "Transporting alcohol or drugs in the cab of your commercial vehicle is never a good idea. Trying to toss it out the window after getting pulled over for speeding? Somehow, even worse," according to the agency.

The stop happened at the Mountain Pass Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Facility. No one was hurt and the trip will be delayed at least 24 hours, per citation rules.
