Surveillance video shows SUV hit semi in Dallas crash

A crash involving a semi truck and an SUV in Dallas left a motorist with a severed arm early on Tuesday, August 19. The incident happened in the 5300 block of S. Cockrell Hill Rd, around 6 a.m.

The big picture: The semi, easy to spot with a Dallas Cowboys logo, was later identified after police asked for the public’s help. At first, the injured driver—Carlos Campos—said the truck hit him and then kept going.

  • Campos said his arm was out the window when the crash happened. He ended up losing part of it and blames the truck driver for swerving into him.
  • The truck owner, who wants to be called Enrique, says that’s not true. According to Enrique, his driver was in the middle lane, going about 20-30 mph, when the SUV came up fast from behind and tried to swerve but struck the trailer.
  • Enrique gave police surveillance video from a business near the scene. He says the footage shows his driver kept a straight line and did not hit the SUV.

What they’re saying: “I’m really, really sorry about what happened to Mr. Carlos, but my truck never, never hit his car, never,” Enrique said. He added that his driver didn’t even know about the crash until police put out photos of his truck.

  • Enrique says he’s known his driver for nearly 20 years and stands by him.
  • Police checked the semi and found white paint from the SUV on the back of the trailer, lining up with the video, reported NBC DFW.

Zoom out: Dallas Police are still looking into the crash. The investigation is ongoing as new evidence gets reviewed.
