The incident: The wreck happened at about 4:50 a.m. at the intersection of 19th Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road. Police say the SUV crashed into a large, concrete bridge section as it was being hauled through the intersection by a truck.

  • The SUV was badly damaged and became lodged underneath the concrete pillar.
  • The driver was removed from the SUV and taken to the hospital with broken legs, according to Arizona's Family.

Impact: Lower Buckeye Road had to be closed east of 19th Avenue, and 19th Avenue was reduced to one lane in both directions while police worked the scene.
