Texas trucker arrested in Maine for diesel theft and damage

A truck driver from Texas was arrested in Maine for stealing diesel and causing damage to a commercial motor vehicle, authorities reported.

What happened: On January 31, the East Millinocket Police Department was alerted to the theft at Timberland Trucking. The theft of diesel and damage to the vehicle caused the trucking company to miss a scheduled load for the day.

How it unfolded: Surveillance footage helped identify a suspect and vehicle. With assistance from the trucking community sharing information on social media, police received tips leading to the suspect's location.

Arrest: Around 4 p.m. on February 2, the suspect was spotted heading south on I-95. Despite refusing to stop for police initially, 34-year-old Erik Beltran-Alvarez was later arrested. He faces charges including Theft, Criminal Mischief, and Failure to Stop for Law Enforcement.

Community response: The local trucking community played a crucial role, as they offered significant support in identifying the suspect which ultimately led to his arrest.

Impact: The incident cost Timberland Trucking around $780 in stolen fuel and inflicted $1200 in damages to the truck.

Law enforcement's gratitude: East Millinocket Police expressed their thanks to the citizens who actively provided information, helping to resolve the case swiftly.
