Thieves make off with $150,000 in beef as truckers sleep

More than $150,000 worth of beef was stolen from a parked semi in South Philadelphia over Memorial Day weekend.

What happened: The theft took place while the two drivers slept in their cab between midnight and 5:45 a.m. on Tuesday, May 27. Their truck was parked on the 1400 block of Warfield Street, with its engine and reefer unit running overnight.

  • The drivers didn't hear a thing because the sound of the idling engine and trailer covered up any noise from the thieves.
  • When they woke up, they discovered about 10 and a half pallets of beef missing from their trailer.
  • The police estimated the value of the stolen load to be around $150,000.

The investigation: Philadelphia Police are looking into the theft, but no arrests have been made as of yet, reported NBC Philadelphia.
