Authorities in Miami have nabbed a third suspect in connection with a sophisticated theft operation involving $100,000 worth of chicken from a tractor-trailer. This arrest comes on the heels of two other men being booked for a similar theft involving another trailer.
Details: 42-year-old Yoel Torres-Diaz and 37-year-old Carlos Acosta-Viera were taken into custody on April 9 for stealing a different truck in Davie the day before.
- The pair was observed climbing into a stolen truck after it was found by the Florida Highway Patrol.
- Torres-Diaz has been tagged as part of a professional theft ring, also linked to a 2022 theft of a lumber-loaded truck.
How it unfolded: The Miami trailer theft happened last September, near Old State Road 9, right outside a trucker's home. Acosta-Viera and Torres-Diaz were seen switching vehicles, with the latter driving the stolen trailer.
- Two other individuals, Jorge Lyen Blanco-Diaz and Raul Bello, were rounded up last year for the chicken cargo heist.
- Local police reports link Torres-Diaz and Blanco-Diaz to a larger syndicate known for making off with high-value cargo.
More arrests: This ongoing investigation has highlighted a trend of organized crime targeting valuable truck cargo, reported NBC Miami.
These incidents underscore the need for truckers to stay vigilant. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported in connection with these thefts.
