Tractor-trailer crash on I-285 delays traffic in Georgia

Traffic was backed up on Wednesday morning after a tractor-trailer crashed into police cruisers on I-285 in Fulton County, Georgia.

The incident: Around 4:50 a.m., police officers were helping with a stalled vehicle near Camp Creek Parkway when the semi struck three patrol cars, reported by Atlanta News First.

  • Two officers standing outside their vehicle were thrown by their patrol car, while another inside the vehicle was hit on the driver's side.
  • Emergency responders took the injured officers to a hospital; injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.

The cause: The truck driver was cited for speeding, misusing lanes, and violating the Move Over law.

Impact on traffic: The crash shut down all southbound lanes, though one lane reopened by mid-morning.

The full reopening of the interstate helped ease the congestion caused by the morning's events.
