Tractor-trailer crashes into I-83 sign, driver rescued from cab

A tractor-trailer slammed into an overhead sign pole on I-83 near the Fishing Creek exit in York County, Pennsylvania, around 8:45 a.m. on Monday, June 9.

What happened: The impact was so severe that emergency crews had to cut the driver out of the cab. The condition of the driver is not yet known.

  • The truck crashed into the pole supporting a 7,000-pound sign structure, causing major damage.
  • PennDOT said the sign and pole must be fully removed for safety reasons.
  • Crews are waiting on a crane, set to arrive at about 3 a.m., to help with the removal operation.

Traffic impact: Interstate 83 northbound will be closed twice overnight for about 20 minutes each time as crews safely take down the sign, according to Local21 News.

Authorities have not released further details on how the accident occurred or shared an update on the driver’s injuries. The situation is still developing as PennDOT works to clear the scene.
