Tragic pileup on I-80 involving multiple semis and cars

A serious accident forced the closure of I-80 in Wyoming on Friday, February 14, following a multi-vehicle pileup near Green River.

The situation: The crash occurred around 11:37 a.m. at mile marker 90.2 and involved multiple passenger vehicles and semi trucks, according to the Wyoming Highway Patrol. Tragically, there have been multiple fatalities reported.

  • Emergency services are dealing with an active fire and an explosion threat in the area.
  • I-80 is closed in both directions between Rock Springs and Green River.
  • Westbound traffic is being redirected to exit 91, while eastbound traffic is diverted to exit 89.

The warning: Authorities have cautioned drivers against using alternative routes due to hazardous conditions and ongoing emergency operations.

Currently, there is no estimated time for when the interstate will reopen.
