Indiana State Police are running a special enforcement operation today, October 29, focused on spotting aggressive drivers from inside semi trucks. Officers are riding in the passenger seats of semis across the state, looking for people who are speeding, making dangerous lane changes, following too close, or driving distracted.
How it works: If a trooper riding in a big rig sees a violation, they radio ahead so patrol units can take action.
- The effort relies on the higher view from a semi to catch drivers who might otherwise go unnoticed.
- “Every semi you see on the road, assume there is a Trooper sitting in the passenger seat, because there just might be,” said Trooper John Perrine in a Facebook video.
- This operation is happening statewide and will last for the day.
Between the lines: Truckers are helping police by allowing officers to ride along, showing the important role drivers play in keeping roads safe.
The enforcement push is focused on catching dangerous driving and reducing crashes as troopers team up with the trucking community.
