Truck driver injured when tire bursts on I-40

A truck driver was injured early Thursday morning, April 3, when a tire on his semi truck exploded on Interstate 40 near Lenoir City, Tennessee.

What happened: The driver, 54-year-old Pavel Pintea, had pulled over to the shoulder to inspect his truck loaded with liquid laundry soap. While attempting to change a left rear tire, it burst and hit him in the face, starting a fire.

  • The fiery incident drew responses that shut down I-40 for about six hours.
  • Another occupant in the truck, 56-year-old Ana Pintea, was unharmed.

Impact: The truck was engulfed in flames, and the highway was down to one lane until it reopened around 8:20 a.m., reported WBIR.

What's next: No charges have been filed, and the condition of Mr. Pintea remains unknown as authorities continue their investigation.
