Truck driver wins $32 million after slip at ExxonMobil site

A truck driver has been awarded $32 million after a major slip-and-fall accident at an ExxonMobil facility in Illinois.

What happened: Stephanie Johnson, the truck driver, slipped on oil at the ExxonMobil site. She landed on her left hand, which led to a painful condition called Complex Regional Pain Syndrome.

  • The jury decided ExxonMobil was 100% at fault for the incident.
  • They awarded the large sum based on the seriousness of Johnson's injuries and the role ExxonMobil played.

The response: Johnson said, "I’m grateful that justice has been done. This verdict isn’t just for me — it’s for every worker who has been harmed by corporate carelessness."

ExxonMobil isn’t letting it go. The company plans to appeal, saying the verdict "is completely untethered to the evidence," according to Yahoo News.
