Truck driver wins $5 million lottery while on route

A truck driver from South Carolina recently struck gold with a $5 million lottery win while on the job in North Carolina.

The win: Melchor Aguilar purchased a 200X The Cash scratch-off ticket for $30 at a Kangaroo Express in Liberty, a town he passed through for work.

  • The purchase was made on December 28, 2024, a day he likely won't forget anytime soon.

The choices: At the North Carolina Lottery office, Aguilar opted for the lump sum of $3 million instead of annual payments of $250,000 over 20 years.

  • After taxes, he brought home $2,152,508.

Background: This lottery game debuted in March with five top $5 million prizes, three of which remain to be claimed, reported NCEL.

As Aguilar celebrates his big win, the trucker's profession continues to play a vital role on the roadways across America.
