Trucker arrested for murder after fellow driver finds body at stop

A trucker named Anthony Harris, 50, has been arrested following the discovery of a woman's body at a South Dakota truck stop. The deceased, identified as Melody Fae Gooch, 57, also from Detroit, was found on Monday night.

The charges: Harris is being charged with Second-Degree Murder and Improper Disposal of a body. South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley announced that law enforcement, after analyzing evidence and security videos, apprehended Harris who is now in custody in Washington State.

The body was found by another truck driver and appeared to have been struck by a vehicle multiple times before being hidden under a pile of pallets reported the Mitchell Republic.

Critical evidence: Investigators saw suspicious activity in truck lot surveillance footage and subsequently found belongings of the victim near the scene. They also obtained records from the trucking company that helped determine Harris's location at the time of the crime.

Additional information or witnesses are urged to contact the Mitchell Police Department as the investigation remains active. Meanwhile, Harris faces potential life imprisonment if convicted of the charges.

Note: Bond for Harris has been set at $250,000 as the legal process moves forward.
