A truck driver who was attacked at a rest stop in Cochise County, Arizona, earlier this year has died after months in a coma. The assault happened on February 15, 2025, at the westbound I-10 San Simon rest area.
The attack: Jack Chen, 58, made a 911 call, saying, "a truck driver hurt me a lot," before being found severely injured by deputies.
- Chen suffered critical injuries, including serious brain trauma, and was airlifted to Tucson for emergency care.
- He stayed in hospitals for months and never woke from his coma. Chen passed away on July 6, just before his 59th birthday.
- He leaves behind a wife and three children.
The investigation: Detectives identified another trucker, Azizbek Akhadov, as the main suspect. Akhadov reportedly left the U.S. and is believed to be in Uzbekistan.
- Sheriff’s deputies and Interpol are now working together to locate and bring Akhadov back to Arizona for charges, according to KVOA News.
- Sheriff Mark Dannels called it a "senseless crime" and says his agency is fully committed to getting justice for the Chen family.
After her husband’s passing, Jennifer Chen asked the state to consider adding security cameras at rest areas to help prevent future attacks. The case now remains a murder investigation, with an international search still underway for the suspected attacker.
