A truck driver in Kansas had a close call on Tuesday, March 4, when powerful winds flipped his semi, sending it into a ditch. Fortunately, Marcus Clark, the driver, walked away unharmed with a story to tell.
The details: Clark was traveling on US Route 83 near Garden City with an empty trailer when gusts hit at around 70 mph.
- The wind lifted the trailer, forcing Clark to steer into a ditch to avoid a rollover.
- Despite wrecking his rig, Clark safely exited through a shattered windshield.
What he said: "A cataclysmic event," Clark described the scene as the trailer lifted. "I looked to my left... it didn’t look like it was coming back down," he explained.
Straight facts: The wreck happened during a week of severe weather that battered the Plains and Midwest with winds reaching up to 93 mph in some areas.
Survival credit: Clark credits both divine intervention and his seatbelt with saving his life. "If I didn’t have that seatbelt, I wouldn’t be here," he noted, according to Fox Weather.
In his 13 years of trucking, Clark has faced a lot of challenges on the road, but he recalls that sudden wind is the toughest to handle. Thankfully, Clark's quick thinking ensured no one else on the road was hurt in the incident.
