Trucker loses life after semi crashes into New Hampshire river

A truck driver lost his life early Friday morning, August 8th, after his semi ran out of control off Interstate 93 near Tilton, New Hampshire and plunged into the Winnipesaukee River.

What happened: Around 1:52 a.m., a black Western Star tractor trailer heading southbound failed to make a curve near mile marker 57. The rig smashed through the center median guardrail, crossed the median and an embankment, then went over railroad tracks before ending up on its side in the river.

  • The driver was identified as Benjamin A. Wilson, 48, from Granby, Vermont.
  • The left lane of I-93 southbound was shut down at the crash site for several hours for investigation and cleanup.

The New Hampshire State Police are asking anyone with information about the wreck to contact Trooper Conor Davis. No other injuries were reported in the crash.
