Trucker stopped for towing rig with pipe and chain

A truck driver was pulled over by California Highway Patrol on Tuesday morning, September 30, 2025, while moving through San Francisco. He was towing another semi truck using only a metal pipe and some chain.

What happened: CHP got a call from a driver who saw the unusual setup on the freeway. Troopers stopped both trucks soon after.

  • Towing a big rig with just a pipe is not allowed and can be risky—especially for the folks sharing the road.
  • Officers also noticed the brake chambers were dragging on the ground, showing the brakes weren’t working on one of the trucks.
  • The driver was ticketed, and both semis had to be towed from the scene.

CHP thanked the citizen who made the call, saying it helped get the unsafe trucks off the road before anything worse could happen.
