Trucker struck and killed by own trailer while checking rig

A team truck driver lost his life on the evening of October 14, 2025, on I-80 near Rock Springs, Wyoming.

What happened: At about 8 p.m., the Texas-based driver, Idris Kirgin, 28, stopped his rig at mile marker 137 to check on a possible mechanical issue.

  • While Kirgin was outside inspecting, his co-driver climbed into the driver’s seat.
  • The co-driver released the brakes and moved the truck forward roughly thirty feet.
  • Tragically, Kirgin was run over by the trailer’s dual tires and suffered fatal injuries.
  • The co-driver was not injured in the event.

Investigation: The Wyoming Highway Patrol listed driver inattention as a possible cause of the crash, according to Wyoming DOT.
