The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) announced the upcoming closure of the rest areas on I-75 in Butler County for an extensive upgrade starting July 7. These updates are part of a broader overhaul of 36 rest areas across Ohio.
Details: The rest areas, located just south of the S.R. 63 exit at Monroe, will be completely rebuilt. The new design includes larger restrooms, a lobby with vending machines, and covered outdoor picnic areas. ODOT also plans to enhance the landscape with native Ohio plants.
- The project aims to improve amenities for travelers with features like adult changing tables in the restrooms.
- Construction is expected to last until summer 2026, with both northbound and southbound facilities closed during this time.
Impact: Once the closures begin, southbound drivers will have to use facilities near Florence, Kentucky. Northbound travelers can find rest areas in Hancock County, as the others nearby will also be undergoing upgrades.
This initiative aligns with Ohio's statewide rest area modernization project, which was set in motion by Governor Mike DeWine to improve facilities for the traveling public according to ODOT's announcement.
The rest areas are slated to reopen in 2026, offering enhanced services for truckers and other road users.
