Truckers narrowly escape train collision after GPS blunder

Two truck drivers, Chris B. and Arkeen Young, narrowly escaped a potentially deadly situation in Auburn, Washington, on January 18, 2025. The incident unfolded when the drivers followed misleading GPS instructions that led them onto a set of train tracks.

What happened: The drivers found themselves trapped between train tracks and another truck. As they struggled to free their vehicle, a train approached, forcing them to abandon the truck just seconds before the train crashed into it. "By the time I looked over, the train was right there, so I just jumped out," Young shared with local media.

  • The train was carrying over 150 passengers when it collided with the semi, causing significant delays.
  • The cab of the semi was destroyed, but, fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Aftermath: The collision led to more than two hours of delay as cleanup crews worked to clear the wreckage. Train services between Seattle and Tacoma experienced additional scheduling hiccups due to the incident, reported WBTV.

Thanks to the quick thinking of the drivers, they escaped unharmed while preventing potential harm to those aboard the train. The exact reason why the GPS led them astray remains unclear.
