Two semi truck drivers killed in fiery Highway 12 crash

Two semi truck drivers died after a head-on crash and fire on Highway 12 in Attala County, Mississippi, late Friday morning, July 25.

What happened: A log truck driven by John Hedges, 45, from Kilmichael, Mississippi, crossed the center line and hit a semi hauling metal pipes, driven by Raul Rosquete of Clearwater, Florida. Both trucks caught fire after the collision.

  • A car crashed into the back of one of the wrecked semis and also caught fire. The woman inside that car was able to get out without injury.
  • Attala County Fire Chief Tim Cox said, "It’s kind of chaos at first. You’re trying to determine what your initial actions are gonna be. Obviously, life safety is always our priorities. So we’re trying to identify victims."

Highway 12 was closed for hours while first responders worked the scene and removed wreckage, according to WAPT.

No official cause for the crash has been released. Both families have been notified by investigators.
