UNFI warehouse closure in Pennsylvania will leave 172 truckers jobless

United Natural Foods, Inc. (UNFI) will close its distribution center in Schnecksville, Pennsylvania, starting in August. The company filed a notice with the state showing over 700 workers will lose their jobs, including 172 truck drivers.

The details: The layoffs will start in a 14-day window beginning August 12, 2025, and will finish by late October. The affected center is located at 4255 East Independence Drive in Lehigh County.

  • The closure comes after UNFI and Key Food Stores ended their agreement. The two companies decided to move the grocery business to another wholesaler.
  • UNFI said this change helps them leave a partnership that was not making money. They will move customers and suppliers from this location to other nearby centers.
  • According to PennLive, UNFI stated they appreciate their employees’ service and will offer support during the transition.

The company says the closure is about making their operations more efficient after losing the Key Food contract. Some staff may have the chance to transfer to other nearby facilities, but about 700 people will be out of work once the process finishes.
