Volvo recalls nearly 2,500 New VN trucks for steering issue

Volvo Trucks North America is recalling 2,487 model year 2025-2026 Volvo New VN trucks because of an issue with their dynamic steering and oversteer guidance system.

The problem: These trucks can experience a steering problem where the oversteer guidance may try to correct too much, sending the truck in the opposite direction. If this back-and-forth movement continues and the driver does not take over, it could lead to a loss of control.

  • Every truck included in the recall is believed to have this defect, according to documents submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
  • Volvo says it has received one field report on this issue but no reports of crashes or injuries have happened so far.

What's being done: Volvo will fix the issue by turning off the oversteer guidance feature with an over-the-air (OTA) software update at no cost to truck owners. For those trucks that can't receive the update remotely, dealers will handle the fix for free.

  • Volvo also put a stop shipment on all affected new trucks at its factories starting August 5, 2025, until the repair is applied.
  • Notification letters telling owners about the recall are scheduled to go out by October 5, 2025.
  • Owners can contact Volvo Trucks’ customer service at 1-800-528-6586 and use recall number RVXX2506.

All of the details about the defect and repair plan were shared with the government, according to recall documents from NHTSA.
