Volvo recalls thousands of trucks over braking system issues

Volvo Trucks North America is recalling over 126,000 trucks due to potential issues with the Bendix EC80 electronic control units (ECUs).

What's happening: The recall was filed on October 23, affecting trucks built between 2020 and 2025.

  • The defect can cause the antilock braking system (ABS) to malfunction, increasing the possibility of accidents.
  • Models affected include VOLVO VAH, VHD, VN, and VNRE (Electric).

The details: The issue lies in the ECUs where systems like ABS, Automatic Traction Control, and other safety functions may fail or respond incorrectly.

Next steps: Volvo will update the software at dealerships free of charge. Owners will receive notifications by December 13, 2024, according to the NHTSA report.

Fortunately, there have been no reported accidents or injuries linked to this fault so far.
