Woman killed after semi strikes line of vehicles near Bozeman

A 42-year-old woman from Bozeman died in a multi-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon, October 22, on Interstate 90 near mile marker 311 outside Bozeman, Montana.

What happened: A 53-year-old truck driver from Billings driving a Peterbilt was traveling east when he hit a line of vehicles slowing down for construction. He said he was checking his email at the time of the wreck.

  • The semi first struck a Volkswagen Golf, killing the woman who was driving that car.
  • The truck kept going, hitting a Subaru driven by a 69-year-old Laurel woman, which then sideswiped a Ford Explorer carrying a man and a 9-year-old girl.
  • All of the vehicles, including the semi, ended up off the road. The Peterbilt went through a fence.

By the numbers: Only the woman in the VW Golf was killed. No other serious injuries were reported in the crash, according to KXLF News.

No charges or citations were listed in the initial reports, and state troopers continue to review the details of the wreck.
