A rockslide on Highway 40 is delaying the cleanup of a recent semi truck wreck on I-70 near Glenwood Springs, Colorado.
The incident: A semi truck crashed on September 17, spilling oil and cargo and damaging over 25 feet of guardrail. The cleanup was planned for the next day.
Rockslide impact: On September 18, a rockslide closed Highway 40 in both directions, forcing the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) to shift their focus away from the I-70 crash. This diversion has postponed the expected cleanup efforts.
- The crash sent the truck down a 25-foot drop into the eastbound lanes, further complicating the situation.
- Crews now face additional delays before they can return to I-70 for the cleanup operation.
CDOT hasn’t provided a new schedule for the I-70 cleanup, reported CBS News.
Thankfully, no additional injuries have been reported. The next planned closure for I-70 remains uncertain.
